If a driver has too many at-fault accidents or convictions, they may find themselves looking for high-risk auto insurance. Coachman Insurance is one of Ontario’s top high-risk auto insurance companies and offers great rates for those who no longer qualify for standard auto insurance companies.
Coachman was founded in 1979 and has a Toronto headquarters. It currently has over 2000 employees. It is owned by Saskatchewan Government Insurance also known as SGI Insurance. They purchased Coachman in 2001.
If you have a clean driving history with no tickets, accidents or policy cancellations, Coachman Insurance will not offer rates at all. You must collect a certain amount of risk points in order to qualify for Coachman Insurance.
Coachman is a large non-standard insurance provider backed by a major insurer (SGI). They are a well funded and established insurance company.
Coachman prides it’s self on “rehabilitating” drivers with bad records. Once your record clears, you can be transferred to their standard auto insurance company SGI. Coachman may not offer a renewal once your record clears so always keep an eye out for documentation coming from the company as a renewal is not guaranteed.
Who Qualifies For Coachman Insurance?
Coachman Insurance Company is an Ontario high-risk insurer and in order to qualify for their auto insurance, you must have a certain amount of risk points accumulated. There are several ways that a driver can meet this criteria:
- Too many at-fault accidents
- Too many minor convictions
- Major tickets
- Drivers license suspentions
- Insurance policy cancellations (Ex: non-payment)
- Combination of tickets, accidents, license suspensions and cancellations.
Accidents stay on record for six years, tickets for 3 years and policy cancellations for 3 years as well. This means you may be stuck in high-risk for up to six years. Eventually once your record clears, Coachman will no longer offer a renewal and you can be shifted to their standard auto insurance company (SGI).
Coachman also has a maximum risk points that they are willing to accept which means if your record is too high, they may not accept you either.
